U.S. Department of Commerce Announces 12,000 American Workers Placed into Jobs Through Biden-Harris Administration’s Good Jobs Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced more than 12,000 American workers have been trained and placed into jobs through the Good Jobs Challenge. The program, initially funded by the Biden-Harris Administration’s American Rescue Plan, is investing a historic $500 million into high-quality, locally-led workforce training programs across the country. The Good Jobs Challenge (GJC) is the first large-scale worker training program in the history of the Department of Commerce.

When Hurricane Ian struck, it left a trail of devastation in its wake, displacing many residents, including Mitchell. Faced with financial constraints and challenges of rebuilding his life, Mitchell knew that securing a stable career was the key to regaining his independence and self-sufficiency.
Determined to overcome these obstacles, Mitchell enrolled in the Automotive program at Charlotte Technical College. Recognizing the obstacles ahead, Mitchell signed up for navigator support, a crucial step that connected him with the resources and guidance he needed.
The Navigator facilitated financial support that covered Mitchell’s tuition costs, ensuring that his education could continue uninterrupted. a crucial step that connected him with the resources and guidance he needed.
Through hard work and community support, Mitchell completed the Automotive program at Charlotte Technical College. He passed all his certification exams, and with his newfound skills and qualifications, Mitchell secured a full-time position at Christian Brothers Automotive. Now, he is not only self-sufficient but also thriving in a career he loves.
Mitchell’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of community support. With the help of the FutureMakers Coalition, he was able to overcome the setbacks caused by Hurricane Ian and build a stable, fulfilling career. Today, Mitchell is a symbol of resilience, showing that with determination and the right resources, anything is possible.
